Natural-Looking Amalgam-Free Dental Repairs

Cavities are caused by bacteria eroding the tooth’s surface. This decay causes sensitivity and pain and leaves your tooth open to infection.

Fillings repair damaged enamel, stopping toothache and preventing disease. For years, durable, long-lasting mercury amalgam has been the material of choice for fillings—but the black tell-tale black spots it creates on teeth aren’t always a great look.

But modern tooth-coloured materials can match metal fillings in terms of longevity, meaning we can treat cavities without leaving a mark on your teeth.

Even better—iInvisible fillings are just as hardwearing as amalgam and have a much reduced treatment and recovery time.

Tooth Decay Symptoms

Ideally, early signs of tooth decay are detected during routine checkups. However, it’s important to be aware of these symptoms:

  • Sensitivity to hot or cold food and beverages
  • Pain or discomfort while biting or chewing
  • Throbbing pain in the tooth even when not eating
  • Visible cavity
  • Loss or damage to an existing filling

Placing Your Filling

Before placing your filling, we’ll numb the treatment area. Next, we’ll remove any decayed enamel and clean and dry the tooth. Once the site is debris and bacteria-free, we’ll apply the resin that perfectly matches the colour of your tooth.

Amalgam Removal

Amalgam is a material commonly used in fillings. But while the mercury metal composite may have been a cost-effective option for repairing cavities, the dark metallic fillings are less attractive than tooth-coloured alternatives, and you may have concerns about the mercury content.

The CDC takes pride in being an amalgam-free clinic, offering subtle tooth-coloured composite fillings that provide natural-looking cavity repair. We can also replace old, unwanted amalgam fillings with solid and discreet alternatives.

The Amalgam Replacement Process

Amalgam filling removal is a routine procedure. To ensure your comfort, we’ll provide anaesthetic. We’ll also use a protective dam, water spray, and suction for complete, safe mercury removal.

Once we’ve removed the amalgam filling, we can replace it. Because tooth-coloured composite resin fillings bond to the tooth quickly with less mechanical retention, the procedure is brief, involves less drilling, and has a shorter recovery time.

Great service. I had Nigel as my dentist, and he was great with working with me on my schedule as i travel a lot for work. He was very understanding, and catered the Invisalign plan to my life. Was a 9 month process, completed Invisalign, whitened and did bonding. And for the first time in my life, i actually smile with my teeth!
